The Broadface, also known as the Whipper or Angry Kachina, acts as a Guard. When he appears during a procession or traditional ceremony, he functions as a Warrior. His purpose is to surround and protect the Sacred Kachinas. Because of those roles, he is sometimes called the Angry or Whipper Kachina.
